Part-Time Curriculum Design Consultant (Relay Graduate School of Education)

Position:  Curriculum Design Consultant 

Location: Remote; flexible within the US

Type:        Consultant Project  (20-25 hours/month)

Dates:      Two to twelve months, dependent upon scope of contracted work

Compensation: $1,000 per month of contracted work

Areas of Expertise: Early Childhood, Middle Grades 5-8 (all content areas), Secondary Math

If you love PK-12 content, have a passion for ensuring new teachers are highly effective, and would enjoy working on a team of experienced, high-performing educators to develop adult curriculum as a consultant, then the Curriculum Design Consultant role is for you! In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse, brilliant, and committed team of colleagues to offer your content expertise on our new graduate-level curriculum.

You can expect your responsibilities to include graduate level curriculum development, as well as both receiving and sharing of curriculum feedback. Your efforts will contribute to the development of graduate level teacher preparation courses that will impact aspiring and current educators across the country, including roughly 5,000 teachers and 400,000 PK-12 students!

This is the perfect opportunity for veteran teachers, school leaders, and other content experts (e.g., professors, experienced teacher trainers and PK-12 content designers) who are looking to expand their impact on PK-12 teachers and classrooms. 

WHAT YOU WILL TACKLE

Design Development (20-25 hours/month)

  • Design faculty facing module plans (A module contains the asynchronous + synchronous strategy and formative assessments for a set of session objectives)
  • Attend a design kickoff meeting for the modules you are designing, and periodic feedback sessions as determined by the Design Director for your content area
  • Develop student-facing materials (i.e., PPT, case study, feedback sheets, etc.) for each module that you design
  • Receive and incorporate feedback on module design products

The length of this consultant work depends on the scope of your contracted work. For example, if you are responsible for creating two modules, your contract will be for four months. You can expect during that time you’ll meet once a month for one hour with your hiring manager, spend the first 2 weeks of the month designing, and the last 2 weeks incorporating feedback on your design.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

First and foremost, the Curriculum Design Consultant must share the Relay community’s commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. The Curriculum Design Consultant must share the team’s commitment to improving PK-12 student outcomes through Culturally Responsive and Inclusive Teaching practices. Additionally, for this position we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

  • A master’s degree or doctoral degree in the relevant field
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following PK-12 content areas: Elementary, Secondary Math, Early Childhood, Secondary ELA, Secondary Social Studies, and Secondary Science
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in PK-12 content area of expertise
  • At least two years of experience leading professional development sessions for teachers
  • At least two years of experience observing, coaching, and developing novice teachers
  • Experience with curriculum design and implementation
  • Ability to commit approximately 20-25 hours per month to the role; deadlines and deliverables will be clearly outlined at the beginning of the design cycle

COMPENSATION

Relay’s compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the education nonprofit market and ensure equity across the institution. The curriculum design work is a deliverable-based role, as consultants have the autonomy to complete the deliverable on their own terms by the due date. Consultants will be paid $1,000/month.
