About the Role

Responsible for the management and coordination of internal and external research projects. You may work in a variety of fields, including customer, efficacy, product, and usability research. In your work, you will develop strategy and provide guidance throughout each project lifecycle. Your duties include collaborating with a team to evaluate work processes and creating reports. You will ensure each project is delivered on time and within budget. Research managers make strategic recommendations based on their research and analytics and moderate key client meetings and presentations.

The Research Manager reports to the Vice President of Product and has the primary responsibility for planning, facilitating, and managing BookNook’s product and academic research projects. The Manager will develop compelling deliverables that will drive engagement and add value to BookNook. They collaborate to provide strategic input and guidance on all research projects, directly contributing to or managing research goals, planning, design, analysis, reporting, and distribution. The Manager will be a diligent researcher and writer with an ability to quickly develop deep knowledge of domain-specific issues and priorities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Research Strategy and Planning:

  • Contribute to research strategy holistically and on a project-by-project basis.
  • Contribute to strategy for, plus develop and manage, the annual research calendar.   
  • Contribute to the design of all BookNook research projects.
  • Manage the process for and contribute to the selection decisions of external research partners where applicable.
  • Track, comment on, and distribute to internal stakeholders relevant research conducted by other organizations.

Research Analysis, Production, and Distribution:

    • Provide primary or secondary analysis of all research data, which may involve the use of quantitative and/or qualitative methods, to support the development of or contributions to key findings.
    • Directly contribute to and manage the creation of research reports and presentations, including drafting the findings report and presentation, and collaborating with stakeholders on design and production. Collaborate with team on key research talking points.
    • Manage the process and ensure research findings/reports/presentations are announced and distributed. Seek and manage the development and distribution of new/innovative methods for sharing the findings with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Support the creation and production of original content for dissemination in publications, newsletters, and other media.
    • Contribute to and/or directly participate in the oral presentation and training on the findings.

Research Project Management:

    • Project-manage research projects, including creating and managing plans, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and stakeholder contributions.
    • Manage the day-to-day relationship with research agency partners where applicable.
    • Track and report on research activities, progress, and outcomes. Conduct periodic review and evaluation of the efficacy of research efforts in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders.
    • Participate in regular team meetings to review progress and deliverables.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

    • A minimum of 5 years of research experience, 2-3 years directly overseeing research planning, statistical analysis, and project management, preferably for a K12 ed-tech company.
    • Demonstrated expertise participating in the design, analyses, and distribution of academic, product discovery, usability,  and marketing research.
    • Masterful analytical skills, including the ability to distill useful findings from a body of data, relating findings to external factors and context, and unearthing patterns of findings, discerning which are useful.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills including proven success and ability to present ideas and concepts effectively and persuasively.
    • Demonstrated expertise in communicating with and managing relationships with external research vendors.
    • Excellent project management skills including demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities and multiple tasks. Outcomes and deadlines oriented.
    • Excellent attention to detail. Organized and process-oriented.
    • Ability to deliver high-quality work, quickly in a dynamic organization under time pressure.
    • Ability to “lead from behind” with a keen understanding and skills in relationship building and stewardship of cross-functional initiatives.
