The Role
We’re looking for an experienced writer/editor with a passion for inquiry-based, culturally responsive education, and prior classroom teaching experience. You will write, review, refine and otherwise develop language for teacher lesson plans, student materials, and instructional supports.
When writing, you will use outlines to write the copy for teacher facing lesson plans and student facing materials. This involves the ability to envision the teacher in the classroom and provide clear directions that adhere to a style guide, and to develop implementation tips that support differentiation, culturally responsive education, and inquiry. In addition, the role requires that writers seek and value feedback, and can use written feedback notes to make edits.
When reviewing, you will read for clarity, continuity, consistency, adherence to inquirED style, formatting, and grade-level language. You also read with empathy and awareness of both student and teacher experiences. In this process you will employ protocols to provide clear feedback within files, identifying challenges and suggesting edits.
Responsibilities include:
- Writing lesson directions, assessments, assessment guides, differentiation tips and student materials
- Reading for clarity, continuity, consistency, adherence to inquirED style, and formatting
- Identifying and resolving inconsistencies in and across lessons
- Performing light fact-checking
- Promoting best writing practices and adherence to inquirED style
- Following protocols to provide feedback
Qualifications
- Experience in educational writing and classroom teaching; background in K–8 education preferred
- Strong writing and editorial skills
- Comfortable giving, receiving, clarifying, and acting on written feedback.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail while continuing to always see the big picture
- Highly organized, with ability to self-manage and communicate task progress and next steps within a collaborative yet virtual environment
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, feedback-driven environment while hitting hard deadlines
- Passion for inquirED’s mission
- Available for collaboration during the 9-4 Central Time work day
