Vice President of Education Policy and Advocacy (Latinos for Education)

 The Role in a Sentence

Reporting to the Chief Policy and Advocacy Officer, the Vice President of Education Policy and Advocacy is responsible for providing executive-level oversight of policy, advocacy, and engagement processes, including thought leadership, policy analysis, policy development, and cultivating key partner relations with decision-makers and influencers in the federal education space.


Role Overview


Strategic Direction & Policy Development: 50%

  • Support in the development of federal policies and national advocacy strategies that advance the mission to remove barriers to equitable educational opportunities for Latino students.
  • Co-design the organization’s advocacy action plans, annually, and help achieve action plan outcome goals.
  • Support regions in aligning and advancing education policies that enhance the organization’s national priorities.
  • Coordinate with Chief Policy and Advocacy Officer to analyze legislation and administrative rules and provide expert testimony to advance the organization’s policy agenda.


External Relationship Management: 30%

  • Engage in the cultivation of strong relationships with key stakeholders including elected and appointed officials, civil rights organizations, education policy organizations, etc. to amplify Latinos for Education's (L4E) public policy agenda.
  • Serve as an external representative for L4Es policy and advocacy work through public speaking engagements, media opportunities, and other thought-leadership opportunities.
  • Communicate with decision-makers and education advocates to provide strategic advice and support on policy development, research, and implementation.
  • Build and manage national partner relationships and participate in donor outreach to maintain and strengthen relationships.
  • Conceptualize, structure, and lead themed convenings, both in-person and virtual, with organizational partners, advocates, constituencies, and researchers on relevant education issues that impact Latino students.


Research & Project Management: 20%

  • Support with tracking of advocacy outcomes, deliverables, and legislative impact for grant, board, and organizational reporting.
  • Work effectively with communication colleagues and partners to develop publications, materials, tools, and resources.
  • Work with stakeholders to translate and make more accessible, all materials, communication, and resources for dissemination to L4E partners, fellows, parents, and target audiences.
  • In collaboration with executive and senior staff, design quantitative and qualitative evaluation metrics and data collection methods for the policy, advocacy, and engagement portfolio.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the executive team.
  • Attend team meetings and retreats and positively impact Latinos for Education's organizational culture.
